I had the opportunity to attend Ansible June meetup hosted by Tavisca Solutions. The agenda for the meetup was to cover popular open-source products, including Ansible, Foreman, ManageIQ, AWX, and their integration with one another.

Schedule

The meetup was kicked off by Anandprakash, who presented an “Introduction to Ansible”. He began his presentation by discussing the how Ansible plays a role in “DevOps periodic table”. He also covered introductory topics for those who were new with DevOps.

Following this, Amit and Kavita, did an excellent job of explaining the features and use cases of Foreman. They provided real-world examples and use cases that helped attendees understand how they can use Foreman to manage their infrastructure.

At the previous Ansible meetup, attendees were interested in understanding the differences between ManageIQ and Foreman. To assist them in understanding these tools, I led a session on “Introduction to ManageIQ” which included an overview of its features, a demonstration, and a comparison of common functionality between Foreman and ManageIQ, emphasizing their differences. You can find slides here.

The session were interactive, and attendees were able to ask questions and engage in discussions. The audience was eager to learn more about the integration of these tools.

Discussion

After a well-deserved break, the meetup continued with a presentation by Saurabh Thakare on AWX, the upstream for Ansible Tower. He provided an overview of the tool and its features, which helped the audience to understand the capabilities of AWX and set the foundation for the next presentation.

The final presentation of the meetup was given by Nikhil Kathole, who covered a talk on the integration of Ansible and Foreman. He discussed the added value users can get when using Ansible from Foreman, including Foreman and its prerequisites for Ansible, deploying roles, and the Foreman-ansible-modules. His presentation was informative and provided a comprehensive understanding of industry use-cases.

The meetup was organized by Ompragash and Abhijeet and hosted by Tavisca Solutions this time. Although the meetup was lengthy, it was a valuable experience as we learned new things, made connections, and shared knowledge. The venue, food, and swag were all excellent, making it an overall great experience.
